About our COO – Brian

Brian Koehr serves as our Chief Operating Officer.  Having just completed a 31-year career as a US Naval Officer and Fighter Pilot, he brings with him extensive leadership and management experience with a background of performance leading teams in dynamic, high-stress environments.

A seasoned crisis manager with experience directing an exceptionally skilled, matrixed organization, he served as a trusted advisor to national leaders providing succinct analysis and recommendations during national-level security events.

Versed in the operations of military, US interagency, and non-governmental organizations.  Hands-on international experience expanding maritime security and humanitarian assistance/disaster relief capacity in Southeast Asia and the Indo-Pacific Region.  Diplomatic engagement skills honed at international conferences intended to build partnerships based on shared interest.

Experienced adult educator and school administrator at both the undergraduate and graduate school level.  Set the curriculum for advanced instruction in operational planning, strategic studies, and leadership at US Naval War College.  Leadership and Ethics course taught at undergraduate level leveraged philosophical concepts as well as personal experiences in complex ethical and leadership situations.

Brian thrives on developing team camaraderie while in pursuit of organizational goals. From problem framing to developing a roadmap to the solution, he employs clear communication and direction, empowered teammates, and nurtured relationships to seamlessly execute the operational plan and achieve organizational success.

About our CEO – John

John Koehr serves as the founding President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO). He is a senior executive, engineer, and project manager with over 30-years of experience delivering on challenging strategic initiatives. His career has included serving in leadership roles in non-profit, telecommunications, commercial nuclear power, and the U.S. Navy.

He has led multi-discipline engineering activities in technology areas including pressure technology, clean energy, advanced manufacturing, robotics, bioengineering, and digital engineering.

He built relationships with stakeholders at many levels from industry, government and academia in key markets including power, oil and gas, transportation, manufacturing, telecommunications healthcare, and defense.

He is passionate about the engineering profession, addressing important technology challenges, leading and developing high performing teams to deliver on strategic and operational objectives, advancing the higher calling of non-profit missions, establishing relationships and engaging with diverse stakeholders across many technical disciplines and industries, and contributing to long-term organizational success.

Brian holds a Mechanical Engineering degree from the University of Notre Dame and vast practical experience in Aerospace engineering.  Practiced in mechanical and electrical systems analysis, identification and utilization of system redundancies, and procedural application of back-up functions.  Expertise in maintenance processes for aircraft and large surface vessels.

John holds a degree in Aerospace Engineering, practical experience in Mechanical and Nuclear engineering, leadership of multi-discipline engineering including clean energy, pressure technology, advanced manufacturing, robotics, bioengineering, and digital engineering.

Brian holds an MBA from Kellogg School of Management and is a certified Project Management Professional (PMP).   Extensive experience successfully managing projects of all sizes in military, international, production, and adult education settings.  Proven manager delivering results meeting all stakeholder requirements regardless of complexity of the project.

John holds a PMP and a Masters Certificate in Project Management. Vast experience successfully managing projects of all sizes and in many industries, coordinating a Project Management Office (PMO), and developing professional project managers. Delivers on scope, schedule, and budget – not just two of the three.

Brian’s Leadership philosophy is informed by experiences in U.S. Navy leading high-performing teams in high-stress environments.  Outlook refined through continued application in evolving situations.  A strong believer in goal attainment through clear direction, dialogue, accountability, and follow through.  Team member growth accomplished through empowerment, collaboration, openness, and mentoring essential for a cohesive organization motivated to meet shared organizational objectives. John’s leadership philosophy is also rooted in his U.S. Navy experience and includes belief in a strong chain of command, clear communications, and clarity of roles including responsibility, authority, and accountability. John has fluency with nearly all aspects of non-profit business operations, strategy formulation and execution, translating strategies into operational plans with aligned objectives and initiatives, establishing relevant performance metrics and targets, success achieving strategic and operational objectives.

Prior to forming the Koehr Consulting Group, John served in various senior executive roles at the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), most recently as the Managing Director, Technology Advancement and Business Development. In this role he was responsible for strategy implementation, new product and business development, portfolio management and integration, government relations, engineering education, management of volunteer councils and boards, policies and procedures, performance metrics, and financials. He also served as President of the ASME Standards Technology, LLC (ASME ST-LLC) responsible for business processes, business development, project management, publications, commercial relationships, financials, administration, and committee management.

Prior duties with ASME included service as Managing Director – Technology and Personnel Certification, Director – Codes and Standards Technology, and founding President – ASME Personnel Certification, LLC. Prior to joining ASME he managed major projects in the submarine telecommunications cable industry, worked as a project engineer and manager in the commercial nuclear power industry, and served as a U.S. Navy submarine officer.

John holds a B.S. degree in Aerospace Engineering from the U.S. Naval Academy, a Masters Certificate in Project Management from The George Washington University, and Project Management Professional (PMP) and Certified Association Executive (CAE) certifications.
